Selection Policy
Our overall aim is to develop our young Academy members to be the best cricketers they can be whilst instilling in them a lifelong love of the game of cricket.
To help achieve this, for each age group that we run teams, we generally look to run two XI's, one "Main XI" and one "Development XI", to ensure that every Academy member has the opportunity to play in a standard and to develop at a pace that is suited to their specific needs.
In the Main team we will try to win games by selecting our best possible XI, whilst for the Development team the emphasis will be on ensuring that everyone has the chance to participate to their full potential.
Academy members will always be selected above non-members.
If you have any questions on selection please speak to the age group manager concerned in the first instance and then to the Academy Director by email. if you require further clarification.
Parent Helpers
We are always on the lookout for parent helpers. If you think you might be able to help us on a regular basis, either with Friday night sessions or on match days please contact the Academy Director by email. or the relevant age group manager.
Equipment & Clothing
Ideally we would like all Academy members to own their own bat, box and helmet; however we do have a small supply of helmets and bats. There are a number of good cricket equipment shops in the area. We recommend Romida and Fordham Sports. For training sessions, a white tee-shirt; tracksuit bottoms or shorts and sturdy trainers are ideal. For matchday clothing, please visit our club shop at Surridge (https://www.surridgesport.com/cobham-avorians-cc).
Although not compulsory, when representing the club in a League fixture, we would like all players to wear Avorians branded clothing, if possible.
Events
We hold an Academy Awards night in late-August or early-September. Other Academy events include a spectacular Firework Night which is fast becoming the talk of Cobham, with over 1000 people attending.
